In a landmark decision, the United Nations in 2012 decided to celebrate 11th October every year as the International Day of the Girl Child. The day marks an annual celebration of girls, across the globe, a day to remind us of the barriers we face and the challenges that one must overcome. It is a day to join hands to ensure a society free of discrimination for girls.
Sachhi Saheli in association with the Delhi District Legal Services Authority (East, North-East &Shahdara) , On 11th October 2018, organized a program bearing the theme, ‘Nigraninahi, JaankariChahiye’ that aimed at raising awareness regarding safety of women and the girl child in order to stress the message that it is essential to equip the girls with essential knowledge that they need to protect themselves.
Sachhi Saheli and Delhi District Legal Services Authority (East, North- East &Shahdara) organized a sensitization-cum-Training-Workshop for government school teachers and ASHA workers from Trans Yamuna area at EDMC Audito- rium in Patparganj Industrial Area in New Delhi. The training program was especially organized for the teachers and ASHA workers as they interact closely with children and families on a regular basis and have the potential to leave an impact on them.

Sachhi Saheli has been commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child since the last 3 years in order to engage the society in a dialogue about the challenges of girls and women in India.
On the occasion of International Day of Girl Child 2019, New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), and Delhi Based NGO Sachhi Saheli organized a program at the NDMC Convention Center to celebrate the day. The program that was based on the theme “Empowering the Girl Child for a better tomorrow” had Mrs. Mala Baijal (Wife of Hon’ble LG of Delhi) as it’s esteemed Chief Guest. The program began at 10 am with lighting of lamp by all the dignitaries present and with Ganesh Vandana that was performed by the students of NDMC schools.
Furthermore in association with Delhi District Legal Services Authority and East Delhi DM Office, on 15th October 2018, Sachhi Saheli organized a program with the theme, “Empowering the girl child for a better tomorrow”, at ASN Senior Secondary School, Mayur Vihar phase 1 because we understand the significance of empowerment of girls and we are sensitive towards their safety needs.
Every year NSS India organizes a month long ‘NSS Republic Day Parade Camp’ for volunteers across India who participate in march past on the occasion of Republic Day, on Rajpath, New Delhi. In the camp the NSS volunteers undergo rigorous training for parade, along with other activities like morning exercise, intellectual session, cultural performances etc.
On 9 th January 2021, Sachhi Saheli got the opportunity to be present in the camp with those talented volunteers and take a session on ‘Adolescent and Menstrual Health’ with them. The session was conducted at youth hostel, Chanakyapuri from 2:30pm onwards and around 200 volunteers (100 Male and 100 female) attended it physically; while around 3000 volunteers from different states of India joined it virtually through Facebook live.
